Farfield Mill
Thankfully, the demise of the last working textile mill in the Dales, built in 1837, was greatly exaggerated. Through the efforts of a group of local volunteers, Farfield Mill was rescued from dereliction and, after years of fundraising and restoration, given an exciting new lease of life in 2001, when it re-opened as an arts and heritage centre. Two magnificent working Dobcross power looms, which have taken the place of the original looms which were once used to weave horse blankets for Queen Victoria, produce an exclusive range of rugs and throws. The mill's master weaver is usually on site at weekends and will be happy to share information about his work.
